The PINWHEEL CARD has recently become a very popular card design and samples are all over social media. Not to be outdone by my stamping peeps, I decided to give it a try myself. What's so cool about the card is that it folds down and fits into a regular card envelope but once out of the envelope, it stands on a flat surface and allow the designer to embellish all four sides of the pinwheel.
For the PINWHEEL CARD, start
with a four pieces of CINNAMON CIDER card stock. One cut at 5-3/4in by 4-1/4in and three
pieces cut at 2-3/4in by 4-1/4in. On the
LARGER piece, score at 3/4in, 1-1/2in, 2-1/4in and 3in on the LONG side. Crease all the folds using a BONE FOLDER.
On
the largest piece, adhere a piece of TEAR & TAPE on the card stock just
before the first 3/4in score line.
Remove the backing and adhere this tab so that the scored portion forms
a long rectangular prism with square bases.
This is the base of your card.
Now carefully adhere the other three card stock panels so that the left
side of each panel is even with the folds of the base. You have now formed the pinwheel and its time
to embellish all the side.
Select
the DSP patterns of your choice and adhere them to all the sides. The small sides will use DSP that is 1-7/8in
by 4-1/4in (3 of those) and the larger sides will use DSP that is 2-5/8in by
4-1/4in (3 of those). For my sample, I used a variety of designs from the BLOOM
WHERE YOU’RE PLANTED PAPER STACK.
Using
the PLANT DIES, cut out images from the DSP including a variety of pots and
plants. Dies were also used to cut out
GREY GRANITE planters, VERY VANILLA plant hanger, JUST JADE and SOFT SEAFOAM
plants and a BASIC BLACK plant stand. I
used the “A little note….,” “Love you,” and ”To a dear friend” sentiments from
the bundle. The fun with these cards is
that once you have the basic structure put together, you can decorate them any
way you like. They fit perfectly in a
regular card envelope but may need extra postage to mail.
The gift box project is great if you need a little inexpensive gift for a friend or coworker. I added a divider for the inside to keep the items in place.
Start
with a piece of EVENING EVERGREEN card stock, cut a 6-1/2in by 9in. Score on the SHORT side at 1in and 5-1/2in. On the LONG side, score at 1in, 4in, 5in and
8in. For the divider that goes inside
the box, start with a piece of EVENING EVERGREEN card stock, cut at 4-3/8in by
4. On the SHORT side, score at 1-5/8in,
2-1/8in and 2-5/8in. Below is a picture
of the box template after cutting.
Build
the box by putting adhesive on all the flaps and folding it closed. Before adhering, you can cut a notch out of
the front panel using a 1in CIRCLE PUNCH to make the box easier to open.
Once
the box is together, cut a 4-3/8in by 2-7/8in piece of DSP for the top of the
box (I chose the white brick design). Stamp the sentiment in EVENING EVERGREEN
INK on a 5/8in BASIC WHITE strip. For
the shelf, cut a 3/4in by 4in piece of CINNAMON CIDER card stock. For the shelf braces, cut two 1/4in by 1/2in
pieces of card stock and glue them under the shelf as shown above.
For
the various plants and pots on the shelf, cut a terracotta pot, a handled pot
and a broad-leafed plant from the DSP.
You can use the coordinating dies from the bundle or “fussy cut”
them. The spiny succulent was created
using EVENING EVERGREEN card stock and the die from the bundle. Adhere pots to the box using DIMENSIONALS. Plants
slide behind the pots and are adhered using TOMBOW.
Crease
the score lines on the insert using a BONE FOLDER. Place it inside the box. The hand sanitizer and mini tic tacs fit in the
compartment closest to the fold. The
hand cream fits in the other compartment.
To complete the project, place a gold bow from the SIMPLY ELEGANT TRIM
on the smaller pot using GLUE DOTS.
The video below shows how the PINWHEEL CARD and GIFT BOX come together.
